Chapter 26

The Books of the Old Testament consist of 4 main sections: Laws (Pentateuch), Historical, Poetic (Wisdom), Prophetic.

The 7 extra books in the Catholic Bible found neither in the Hebrew or Greek texts are called “Deuterocanonical” (Second Canon) or “Apocrypha” (Hidden). They are Baruch, Judith, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Sirach, Tobit and Wisdom.

The Books of the New Testament consist of 5 main sections: Gospels, Acts of the Apostles, Letters of Paul, and Revelation.

“Thus all the days of Methuselah were 969 years, and he died.” Genesis 5:27.

“Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men.” Matthew 2:16.

“On the very same day Noah and his sons, Shem and Ham and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them entered the ark” Genesis 7:13.

In addition to the eight human occupants, Noah brought various species of animals on the ark, to preserve them from the global flood.

“Then Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt.” Genesis 37:28.

Joseph’s brothers initially threw him into a pit before he was pulled out to be sold into slavery.

“Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.” Matthew 26:14-15.

^“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.” Matthew 2:10-12.

The Bible does not specify age of Jesus when the three wise men, also known as the Magi or the Three Kings, visited him. It is believed that they left from Persia and followed the star to Jerusalem, a journey that took about 2 years. Of note is that Herod ordered the killing of all male children who were two years old or under.

“The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.” Revelation 22:21.

“Amen” is a Hebrew word signifying affirmation, agreement, belief, and the truth.
