Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector by profession and he was wealthy. The Bible does not mention his height, but he was said to be “small in stature.” He had to climb a sycamore tree to see Jesus who was passing through Jericho. Jesus noticed him, ordered him to get down, and he had dinner at his home. The people were not happy because they attributed his wealth to be the product of corruption. Zacchaeus pledged to give half of his belongings to the poor.
“And Jesus said to him, “Today” salvation has come to this house, since he is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”” Luke 19:9-10.
